9. linchen

This is a picture of a linchen which is an organism associated with a fungus. It is two organisms living together. The fungi lives on the rock and continues to spread. the rock is not harmed or effected by the presence of the fungi.

8. succession

This is a picture of an old fire pit that has not been used in about a year. Now small plants are growing back into the pit. Although succession is usually more like plants growing back after part of a forrest is burned down, this is a smaller example of succession. Soil was once present at the bottom of the fire pit which makes this secondary succession.

7. vestigial structures

My eye is an example of a vestigial structure because the plica semilunaris, or the small fold of tissue on the ich as inside corner of the eye, is the vestigial structure of the nictitating membrane (the "third eyelid"). This is present in other species such as birds, reptiles, and fish.

6. adaptation of a plant

This Plant is an example of a plant adaptation because the tree is evergreen so that it can photosynthesis right away when temperatures rise. The Tree has needle-like leaves so it loses less water and shed snow easily. The waxy coating on the needles prevents evaporation. The branches droop downwards so snow can easily fall and so the branches dont break.
